[Grazing](https://help.pasture.io/livestock?hsLang=en#grazing) # How the Padlock Works ## When creating a grazing using PIO’s calculations, the feed wedge will align with your Monthly Target settings. However, if you want to graze only part of a paddock or graze below the set post-grazing residual, you can use the padlock to enter the residual based on your own data.   In both these examples the feed wedge for this paddock is showing a cover of 3500kg/DM ![](https://help.pasture.io/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Sep-14-2026-02-20-28-7553-AM.png?width=670&height=269&name=image-png-Sep-14-2026-02-20-28-7553-AM.png) **To create a higher post residual:** Pasture demand is locked in at 10KgDM/animal/day  PIO recommended 5.5days, but in this case, it is only being grazed for to 2 days  Post residual is then calculated and shown on the feed wedge as 2823kgDM/ha when the grazing plan has been completed.
